A rare opportunity to enjoy the gardens of one of Scotland’s architectural gems will be available this weekend as part of Scotland’s Gardens Scheme.

The gardens of Gallery House, near Marykirk, will be open to visitors on Saturday (May 28), from 2pm-5pm.

Surrounding the 17th/18th century Grade A listed house, the historic gardens have been redesigned and replanted to preserve and extended their traditional framework of holly, privet and box.

A grassed central alley, embellished with circles, links themed gardens, including a fine collection of old roses, yellow and blue floral borders of the entrance garden and the fountain and pond in the formal white garden.

A walk through the woodland and garden, home to rare breed sheep and with its extensive border of mixed heathers, leads to the river North Esk. From there rough paths lead both ways along the bank.

Admission will cost £4 and accompanied children are free.

The money raised will go to Practical Action and the charities supported by Scotland’s Gardens. Further details about gardens opening in Angus for Scotland’s Gardens is available at www.scotlandsgardens.org
