WITH the countdown to Kirriemuir’s Relay for Life now in earnest, the fund-raising goes on for local teams as they limber up for the 24-hour marathon.
Discos, art exhibitions and collections of unwanted clothing have all helped boost the coffers of the various teams.
The latest fundraiser was a jewellery and candle party hosted by Paul Soutar’s Hair Studio in Reform Street on Sunday.
Paul will be joined by staff and family members as they take to the track at the Kirriemuir Show field, East Muirhead of Logie, on August 13 and 14. His team, entitled “The Hair Bangers”, comprises Leeann, Chris, Dana, Mark, Hannah and Carla Soutar, Pam and Emma Henry, Dawn Stephen, Lorna Craig, Amy McGregor and Linda and Billy Shepherd.
Prior to Sunday’s event their total was over £2,500 - with funds still coming in.
Kirriemuir’s previous Relay for Life raised over £170,000, with more than 500 people joining in the fun. Those not taking part can support the cause by handing in unwanted clothing and household goods to the Cancer Research UK shop in Forfar and the donation station at Strathearn Funeral Directors in Kirriemuir, with each bag adding another £30 to the Kirriemuir Relay for Life appeal. Relay For Life raises funds to help Cancer Research UK support the work of scientists, doctors and nurses who are dedicated to beating cancer.
