Forfar SNP members were out at the Cross on Saturday, November 23 collecting toys from Forfar shoppers for the Angus Toy Appeal.

A large number of toys and gifts for children aged 0-16 were collected on the day that will be given to families in need across Angus this Christmas.

SNP Branch Convener Ron Buchanan said: “Addressing child poverty is on everyone’s mind at this time of year, but it will be an issue high on the SNP agenda all year round.

“This collection provided an opportunity to raise awareness of the issue and allow Forfar residents to do something positive right here in Angus.”

Membership of the Forfar SNP local branch has trebled in number to more than 220 since the outcome of the Scottish Referendum in September.

Buchanan said: “The increase in branch membership is a reflection of the increase in political engagement that occurred during the referendum campaign. People are interested in staying active, and members are telling us that they want to get involved in helping to address local issues.”

To that end, the Forfar SNP branch will be at the Cross on Saturday, December 13 from 10.30 a.m. until midday collecting food donations for the Salvation Army food bank.

The most needed items are main courses such as tins of stew, mince, macaroni.

Soups are always welcome and at this time of year puddings would go down very well.
