The final total raised at this year’s Angus Rotary Marafun for the Ninewells Cancer Campaign has been unveiled.
At a reception in the Canmore Room in Forfar David Valentine, convener of the May event organised by Forfar Rotary Club, revealed £12,000 had been raised, taking the club’s overall support for the charity to over £160,000
Mr Valentine said: “We raised over £2,300 for local organisations including those which provided entertainment for Marafun.”
He said this year’s total was a tribute to the hard work of all those involved in staging the seventh Marafun, as well as the support of the teams of runners who were sponsored to run the town centre route.
He added: “From the very start this has been a real community effort and that is what has made it so rewarding for those of us involved in Marafun.”
Lady Fiona Fraser, chairwoman of the Ninewells Cancer Campaign who was presented with the cheque, said: “As a group they have been our largest donor and we are very grateful to them for all their hard work that makes their events such a success.”
The total will be further boosted as the winners of a four-night stay at the Piperdam Golf and Leisure Resort - Alison Kydd, Lesley Cromar, Maggie Hoggan, Debbie Sussams and Sam Connelly - have offered it back to auction and Larry Rogers, winner of the raffle first prize of T in the Park tickets, has donated the £300 ticket money to the campaign.
