Staff at Forfar Swimming Pool are taking part in the UK’s biggest fund-raising swim - and they invite members of the public to join them.

The Forfar pool is one of 600 nationwide to host the Swimathon for Sport Relief on the weekend of March 22 and 23.

The Forfar team of leisure attendants Sarah Cumming and Jane Ritchie, receptionist Cathy Sutherland, coach Elizabeth-Anne Butza and Gillian Keay, duty manager at the Lochside Leisure Centre, hope to make a big splash by completing a 5 k swim - or 222 lengths - of Forfar’s 22.5 metre pool.

Sarah and Jane explained the Swimathon is open to anyone - if you fancy swimming two lengths or if you want to complete the 1.5K (66 lengths), 2.5k or the 5k challenges.

Two sessions have been arranged for the event - so get in quick if you want to take part.

They will be from 12.30 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 and from 12 to 1.30 p.m. on Sunday, March 23.

Members of the local swimming clubs or individuals are invited to take part.

Sarah explained: “We did the Swimathon for Sport Relief last year and raised £1,215. We hope to beat that total this year.

“Anyone wanting to take part is asked to register online in the first instance at where full details can be found.”

A number of other sponsored event will take place at the pool over the weekend with various activities being held in the gym. Ask at reception for further details.

Home baking will also be sold to help boost the total.
