Forfar Instrumental Band

Do you have any plans for Sunday afternoon?

If you have an hour to spare, Forfar Instrumental Band would love to share your company in the Reid Park.

The band will take to the park on Sunday, July 6 from 2-3 p.m., weather permitting of course.

It is always a busy summer season with engagements in Dundee, a regular date at the Kirriemuir festival, some church services and the occasional invitation to a fete or similar function.

Sadly, appearances in the Forfar park have not been possible for the past few years but circumstances change.

The band is now in a position to play a mid-summer concert with the possibility of a second appearance later in the season.

This Sunday’s concert will see the return of many stalwarts of the band to a familiar setting.

Alongside them will be a number of talented young players, many of them playing in the Reid Park bandstand for the first time.

Two of these young players were finalists in their sections of Forfar Academy’s ‘Young Musician of the Year’ competition.

Four of them will be returning, for the third or even fourth time, to the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland in a few weeks while the youngest member of the band is looking forward to her first NYBBS course.

The band will be conducted by Terrence Jackson, Forfar’s new Musical Director, also making his debut in a Forfar Park.

Terry has been working with the band since March and has been building up a new and varied program that has something to suit all tastes.

He hasn’t had the best of luck with his Forfar appearances so far, with his first appearance being cancelled due to weather, the second getting interrupted by rain and the third being curtailed by a problem outwith the band’s control - so fingers crossed there is better luck this time!
