The Forfar and Area Partnership is looking to recruit new members to help in its quest to keep improving the town.

Local people are invited to a special general meeting hosted by the partnership at the East and Old Parish Church at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 26.

The purpose of the meeting will be to form a new committee to allow the excellent work of the partnership to continue to progress.

Since its inception in late 2005, the Forfar and Area Partnership has been a hugely successful community group in Forfar.

It restarted the annual Gala Week, which is now a very popular fixture in the Forfar calendar.

In addition it has lead on a number of exciting new initiatives in the town, including the establishment of a Friday Night Project and BandSlam initiative to provide new opportunities for young people in Forfar; various litter picks and clean ups; and the organisation of a number of events around Tartan Week to celebrate all things Scottish.

It also has an important role in local community planning, by giving the thoughts and opinions of members on public service provision in the area.

Through the completion of a variety of consultation exercises, the partnership has helped to shape a number of local developments that directly affect the people of Forfar.

As well as local issues, the partnership has contributed to national consultations such as those for the community empowerment and renewal bill and proposed changes to parliamentary constituencies.
