The Angus Strathspey & Reel Society is holding a fiddlers’ rally at the Webster Memorial Theatre in Arbroath on Saturday, May 9 at 7.30 p.m.
The society, formed predominately of fiddle players, will be joined by other musicians from all over Scotland to perform a wide variety of traditional tunes.
These will include Geordie Murison, Joe Aitken, Wayne Robertson and Claire Telford. Geordie is a favourite at events across Scotland, England and Ireland, and is the current holder of the bothy ballad champion of champions trophy.
Joe Aitken is best known for singing the traditional songs and bothy ballads of the north east and is a former Traditional singer of the Year. Wayne Robertson is a former Scottish champion accordionist and is in demand both as a soloist and with his Scottish dance band.
Claire Telford is a former Scottish fiddle champion and is a popular solo player of both Scottish fiddle music and classical violin as a member of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and the London Chamber Orchestra. When not playing, she teaches at the renowned Yehudi Menuhin Music School in Surrey.
