One of the youngest churches in Angus welcomed five new members at its service last weekend. Esk Congregational Church was formed in late 2011. Congregationalism is a form of church organisation where decisions are made by the members. Each congregation is independent. In the 19th century, Congregationalism was prevalent across Angus with churches in Arbroath, Brechin, Forfar, Kirriemuir and Letham. Montrose continues as the United Reformed Church.
Congregationalism produced Scotland’s first woman minister – Vera Kenmure. Esk Congregational Church generally meets in Clova Kirk (by kind permission of the Trustees) but has also met in Kirriemuir and Brechin. The next service will be on Saturday, May 23 at 2.30 p.m.
