Pupils from Forfar Academy’s twinned school in Ebern, Germany, got their first look at the new facility in the Forfar Community Campus on Monday.

The annual Forfar Academy/Ebern exchange is taking place this week, with a number of events lined up for staff and pupils from both schools.

A total of 25 German pupils and staff have made the trip from Ebern, a small town in Frankonia, and are spending a week with host families in and around Forfar.

These pupils, from the Friedrich Ruckert Gymnasium in Ebern, will be visiting Glamis, Kirriemuir, Edinburgh and Dundee during their stay.

There is also the traditional Ebern Ceilidh which is taking place in the school tonight (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.

Tickets are still available for this and may be purchased at the door on the night, for £6.

The ceilidh will include dancing, entertainment provided by Deirdre Adamson, piping, Highland dancing, musical items and stovies.

Mr Euan Gow, of Forfar Academy, said: “The exchange has been running for 24 years now.

‘‘It has been responsible for creating extremely strong links between the communities of Ebern and

Forfar.

“Hundreds of families have taken part over the years, and we are now at the point where previous members of the exchange are sending their own children on the trip.

“The reverse leg of the exchange will take place on June 17 when 26 Forfar Academy pupis will make the journey to Ebern.”

Staff and pupils from both schools also gathered for a photocall in the new Forfar Academy building.
