THE popular Live in the Den open-air musical festival, due to take place in Kirrie Den last Saturday, fell victim to last Thursday’s down-pour which left the popular beauty spot under feet of water.

Organisers DD8 Music looked on in dismay as the water level rose, with the decision taken on Friday to pull the plug.

Chairman Graham Galloway said they had tried to find an alternative location at the eleventh hour, but to no avail.

As in previous years there was a great line-up in place for what would have been the seventh festival featuring a selection of amazing talent from all over Scotland, including a few local favourites. Around 600 people were expected to attend the free festival, organised every year by the community group as a gift to Kirriemuir.

Graham said: “It was a real shame but this was the first time it has had to be cancelled. Everyone was saying they had never seen rain like it in the town before. There was just no-where for the water in the burn in the Den to run to. It is normally a great day for the whole town and I have to say a big thank-you to all the helpers and DD8 supporters.”
