Angus Council welcomed a delegation from Farsta, an administrative district of Sweden’s capital city Stockholm, on Monday.
The eight members of Farsta Council’s senior management team, including district director Steinunn Håkansson, spent the day with Angus officers with similar roles; exchanging information about the challenges and practice of local government in their respective areas.
Commenting on the visit Angus Provost Helen Oswald said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to discuss our current practice and the challenges that we and our Swedish local government counterparts share.
“During what has been a very busy day we have exchanged information about housing, community safety, education and care of older people, among other things. These are big issues, made even bigger by the need to deliver them within shrinking public sector budgets. It was good to hear about different approaches to what are common public sector challenges, regardless of nationality.”
The visit was facilitated by ICG AB, a Swedish based firm which has been working with Farsta and a number of Swedish councils, government departments and private sector companies.
