A Forfar couple are in a race against time - and four other sets of hopefuls - to win the wedding of their dreams.
Debbie Morrison and Kyle Sutherland have until midday on Monday to raise as much money as they can for the charity Cash for Kids and are hoping the local community will get behind their effort.
If successful, they will win a £10,000 package for their dream wedding at the Double Tree Hilton hote in Dundee.
Run by Radio Tay, the competition has set five couples in a head-to-head contest to raise money as much for the charity and they have until midday on Monday (March 28) in which do to it. The couple with the highest total wins.
Debbie and Kyle, who have been together for 12 years, have several activities organised for this weekend and have hit their fund-raising stride after the initial shock of getting into the competition.
Debbie, who works at The Old Mason’s Arms, said that Kyle had entered them in the contest “as a surprise” and they were one of 20 couples interviewed initially.
She continued: “When he told me he had to pick me up off the floor. We were planning to get married next year but if we win there’s a set date for October.
“We were given 11 days to raise the most money so we’re having a massive Easter egg raffle at my work and there’s a bottle of vodka up for raffle too. We’re also having a race night on Saturday night at The Plough and a children’s Easter party on Sunday.
“We’ve managed to get a lot of donations from shops around Forfar for the raffle. Everyone has been really generous.
“It would mean quite a lot to us if we won. We’ve been together for twelve years and have two kids, so this isn’t something we could have looked at as a venue.”
The race night will begin at 7pm in The Plough, Market Street which will also be the venue for the children’s party on Sunday between 11am and 1pm.
Donations, which will count towards Debbie and Kyle’s total, can also be made by mobile by texting ‘WEDDING4’ to 70808. The couple also has a donation page on everydayhero.co.uk
