Dairy to the fore this Saturday

The stallholders from the Angus Farmers’ Market will be setting up their regular indoor site at the Strathmore Hall, John Street, Forfar this Saturday (August 8).

Whatever the weather, the market will be bustling with regular customers and visitors keen to find tasty foods to take home and enjoy.

In this year of celebrating Scottish food and drink the theme for August is to spotlight dairy products and the farmers’ market has a wonderful dairy stall from Banchory Devenick. The Devenick Dairy is family-run and uses creamy milk from Friesian and Jersey cows. There is a large selection of soft and hard cheeses and indulgent cheesecakes including a sweet Orkney fudge or Scotland’s favourite Crannachan.

The dairy is proud to announce that its cheese “Broon Coo” has been awarded a silver for the second year in row at the highly renowned Nantwich International Cheese Awards for the best Scottish Cheese. This successful family business also won awards at the Royal Highland Show in the small producers’ category for its Granite City cheddar, Smoked Deesider and hard cheese Hollie Coo.

Chef Hayley will hold her bite-sized cookery school for adults at 10am and this month will impart how to make the most perfect egg fried rice. Keeping with the dairy theme, she will also hold her popular children’s cookery club at 11am and this month the children will be making butter. These courses are on a first-come-first-served basis and are totally free to customers and their children.

Angus farmers Market is held on the first Saturday of the month in the High Street, Montrose and indoors at the Strathmore Hall, Forfar on the second Saturday of the month, both from 9am to 1pm.
