Thieves plead guilty

TWO female Bulgarian thieves who targeted Angus OAPs in town centre purse snatches have been warned they could face jail.

They have been remanded for three weeks after appearing from custody at Forfar last Thursday (June 9).

Anastasiya Yordanova (26) and Angeline Varbanova (21) both of Langham Road, London, pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing purses and their contents in Roods, Kirriemuir and St David’s Street, Brechin on May 27.

The court heard that the pair followed their victims in and out of shops before the pensioners subsequently discovered their purses were missing.

The culprits were picked up after a police operation was mounted using CCTV to track them to Arbroath town centre.

Sheriff Kevin Veal said “The pleas of guilty have been entered to two matters which are of considerable gravity and, given the narrative, it is very difficult to see how a sentence of imprisonment can be avoided.”
