Angus Council leader Bob Myles has responded to the Education Secretary’s proposed year-long moratorium on rural school closures.
Councillor Myles pointed out that rural schools in Angus are already protected by the council. He said: “I note with interest the Education Secretary’s proposed moratorium on the closure of rural schools as this is something which currently exists in Angus.
“However we believe that these are decisions which should be taken at a local level by councils who have the responsibility for managing their school estate.
“Local authorities must be given the independence to use their expertise and local knowledge in taking decisions to ensure the best possible education for all our young people no matter where they are schooled.”
