There was an early Christmas present for members of the 2nd Kirriemuir Scout Group when they were awarded the monthly £250 sponsorship cheque by the Forfar Roof Truss Company.

The presentation of the cheque, made in conjunction with the Forfar Dispatch and Kirriemuir Herald, was made at the Roof Truss Company’s premises at Orchardbank on Friday.

Since May the committee and parents have been working together to provide better facilities in their seminar room.

Ian Fleming, parent rep, said: “We have freshened up the walls by having a painting party and a local businessman has donated a new computer, but we are in need of a television.

“Some of our staff training module work now comes in CD or DVD format. At present, in order to present the modules, they have to take place in a staff member’s sitting room, which is not ideal.

“Other benefits would include allowing us to link up with other Scout groups in the area and better presentations at our committee meetings.

“Should we be successful your money, plus £150 raised by one of our Monday Cubs, would allow us to purchase a new television.”

Every month the Forfar Roof Truss Company kindly awards £250 to a local group or individual.

Applications for the award are made to the Forfar Dispatch and Kirriemuir Herald and the judging panel comprises members of the editorial team.

If you feel you or your organisation could benefit from a £250 boost you should apply in writing to ‘Forfar Roof Truss Company Sponsorship Project’, c/o Angus County Press Limited, 117 to 119 Castle Street, Forfar, DD8 3AH, by the last day in any given month. Accompanying your application should be details (up to 300 words), providing relevant background information on you or the organisation you represent and how the £250 could be used.
