A special cheque presentation ceremony was held at Forfar Academy on Wednesday following the success of the Laura’s Fun Day.
The fun day was held at Murton Nature Reserve in May in memory of Forfar Academy fifth year pupil Laura Forbes, who fought a long and very brave fight against cancer.
Sadly she died on February 2, 2013.
The school charity fund organised the fun day in Laura’s memory, and as a result four cheques for £1,000 each were presented.
The recipients were Callum’s Cabin, a respite home on the Isle of Bute where families which have a member suffering from cancer; the Riding for the Disabled which provides horse riding experiences at South Bottymyre, Inverarity, for young people and adults with physical and learning difficulties; the Children’s Liver Disease foundation which offers support to families who have children suffering from liver complaints; and the Angus Foodbank which provides food packages to families on low incomes in Angus.
John Vannet, depute head teacher said: “We are most grateful to the school community, parents, friends and local businesses for the fantastic support they gave to Laura’s Fun Day. As a school we are delighted to be able to donate this substantial financial support to these four very worthy charities.” A similar charity fund-raising event is already being planned for Murton next May.
