A former Webster’s High School pupil has joined the race to be this year’s Christmas Number One!
Iain Rooney, 31, now pharmacy manager at Pittenweem Pharmacy in Fife, has recorded a comedy musical number with the proceeds due to be shared between the East Neuk Wheelchair Appeal and the R.N.L.I.
He said the song is a response to the recent John Lewis and Marks and Spencer adverts that have received so much press and internet attention.
“We decided that this year’s Christmas present to our customers would be to make a mock musical advert which detailed all the weird and wonderful things we sell in the shop and host it on youtube.
“But this was soon extended to become a downloadable charity single,” commented Iain.
“Now we will be raising some money for good causes instead of simply raising a few smiles!”
After 24 hours of release the hit had charted in the top 30 comedy songs on iTunes and had achieved more than 500 youtube hits.
The song, Pittenweem Pharmacy Christmas 2011 is available on iTunes for 79p and is chart registered making it eligible for the UK top 40.
Iain said: “We’ve always prided ourselves as being the number one pharmacy in Pittenweem (albeit the only pharmacy in Pittenweem!) but now we hope to be number one in the musical charts!”
