Three Forfar women will undertake the trip of a lifetime next month to raise more than £7000 for two charities close to their hearts.

*Sharon Forbes, her mum Fiona, and her partner Holly Aiken will undertake a 260-mile cycle through Vietnam and Cambodia next February to raise money for Breast Cancer Now and Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

Their remarkable nine-day challenge will take them from the colourful city of Ho Chi Minh in Southern Vietnam to historic Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

They will start their journey at the Cu Chui tunnels north of Ho Chi Minh and cycle approximately 100 miles in two days through the Vietnamese countryside and villages before entering Cambodia at the Moc Bai border.

They will then cycle another 165 miles over three days through rural Cambodia, visiting a number of schools and temples on the way.

After the five days and 265 miles under their saddle they will arrive in Angkor Wat where they will have a few hours of spare time before starting their 30-hour trip back home.

The culmination of their trip will be an exploration of ancient temples and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat, before sharing a last dinner together in Siem Reap.

The ladies choise their charities as, in 2008, Fiona’s now late dad - Sharon’s grandad - uffered a massive stroke and Holly’s mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Sharon also has a history of taking on tough challenges for charity, having previously climbed Kilimanjaro to raise money for Alzheimer’s Scotland, also in memory of her grandad.

Collectively have already raised more than £7000 for the organisations by a vareity of means, including a successful Scotland v England football match in Forfar last July.

A team of amateurs travelled from Rotherham to play a team of amateurs from Forfar. Its success was such that this will now be an annual fund-raising event with the Scotland team travelling south in April.

The ladies have extended their thanks to everyone who has supported them so far and donations can still be made at and
