The TASTE of Angus Festival is a celebration of the fantastic produce available from our local producers and this Saturday the main event will be at the Angus Farmers’ Market at the Mart, John Street, Forfar.
Market organisers are delighted with the feedback from their customers regarding their new location and this Saturday customers will be treated to an extra long market as trading is from 9am to 3pm. The Taste of Angus Festival will welcome two iconic Angus products as Mike Saddler will bring his famous Forfar Bridie and Ian Spink will demonstrate how his famous Arbroath Smokies are made.
There will be over 30 stalls including Lisa from Kitchen Garden Delights who makes the most delicious pizzas, breads and muffins, as well as homemade ketchups. The Wee Pie Company specialises in artisan wild game pies.
A special dedicated area for children will have a range of activities taking place with cake decorating, cow milking and a colouring competition also a nice mixture of small animals can be seen outside for animal lovers young and old.
You can meet some of the animals from The Mountains Animals sanctuary from Glenogil and Rosemary Champion from the Scottish Smallholders and Growers festival will bring her pet lamb Dickie and some chicks to give the children an insight to life on a small holding.
The market has a full programme of cooking demonstration kicking off at 10am as the market’s resident chef Hayley Wilkes will let the kids try some hands on bread making. At 11am award winning chef Mathew De Franco will be preparing a three course meal using market produce then at 12 pm there will be a ‘Can’t Cook Won’t Cook’ style cookery demonstration.
At 1 pm Charlotte’s Chocolates will show how to make cake pops the new big thing after cupcakes. Then at 2pm Angus College will hold a student’s cookery demonstration.
The market loyalty card has proved very successful and customers can get their card stamped at the market information stall and also Isabella’s’ preserves stall. Once your card has six stamps it will be entered into a draw at the December 8 market for a prize of £150 worth of market vouchers. This is a wonderful way to spend your Saturday with plenty of parking, toilets a cafe and lots to see and do whatever the weather.
