Dorothy’s outstanding contribution

A NURSE at Balhousie Lisden Care Home in Kirriemuir was among the staff recognised for their dedication at leading care provider Balhousie Care Group’s inaugural awards dinner.

Residents, relatives and staff were asked to put forward the people they felt deserved special praise, and more than 200 nominations were received.

The winners of the six categories, each chosen from three finalists, were announced at the Balhousie Care Group Best of the Best awards dinner, which was held on Friday night at the Invercarse Hotel in Dundee.

Dorothy Bell was given the Most Outstanding Contribution award for regularly going above and beyond, including giving up her free time to help residents with shopping - and her legendary tablet and home baking at events in the home.

Dorothy, who has been at Lisden since 1999, said: “I was shocked but pleased to win.

“I enjoy spending time with the residents and being involved with all the activities and events.”

Resident Stephen Watson, who lives at Balhousie’s Dalguise Centre in Balbeggie, was among the panel of judges, which also included Balhousie directors Scott Whittet and Stuart Storrie, non-executive director Ross Smith and Tony Banks, chairman and founder of Balhousie Care Group, who presented the awards.

Tony Banks said: “On behalf of everyone at Balhousie Care Group I would like to offer my congratulations to Dorothy and all the other winners and finalists.

“Everyone who was nominated was put forward by their colleagues, residents and families and it was very important to us that the people we look after and their relatives were involved in the whole process as their feedback is vital.

“We know that care is not simply a job but a vocation and Balhousie Care Group is only as good as our people, whether they have a care, domestic, operational or support role.

“Everyone associated with Balhousie Care Group has a special job to do and without their hard work and loyalty the whole operation does not work.

“Our first awards ceremony was to thank them for the special effort they make every day to make sure our residents are well cared for, and to highlight those who regularly go above and beyond the call of duty.”
