Boosting funds for cancer appeal

A yard sale in Hemming Street, Letham on Saturday organised by Sheila and Bob Fraser raised £600 for the Ninewells Cancer Appeal.

This was the latest in a series of fundraising efforts by Wild Angus - a group of eight retired walking buddies who meet every Thursday to tramp the Angus hills and glens.

The eight, all of whom have been touched by cancer, have raised more than £3,000 over the last eight weeks for the appeal. Spokesperson Carol Pope, who is recovering from bowel cancer, said: “Our target is to raise £10,000 over the coming year. We’re thrilled with the generosity of the response so far on our website at www.justgiving.com/WildAngus Saturday’s sale was a tremendous boost. Thanks to all those who donated and bought everything from a breadmaker to a fake horse’s head!”

The group is committed to walking 500 miles over the year to raise funds. Their next initiative is an “Extreme Dining” experience this weekend (sold out) at a remote shooting lodge in the Angus Glens. The lodge can only be reached by land rover and has no electricity or running water so the logistics of laying on a three course meal and drinks for 24 are going to be an interesting challenge!
