Graeme Dey is urging leisure operators in his Angus South constituency to take advantage of the tourist boom following the opening of the V&A at Dundee museum in 2015.

The ambitious £45 million project, which has captured the imagination of Dundee residents, will house a rich and diverse selection of design exhibitions.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to flock to the Waterfront attraction every year spelling good news to businesses in the city and elsewhere in Tayside.

The MSP SNP is keen for leisure enterprises in Angus not to miss out on the rare opportunity and is calling on them to start preparing.

“This is a once in a generation opportunity,” said Mr Dey.

“The V&A will be a huge draw not just to people within these islands but internationally.

“I encourage leisure operators in my constituency and farther afield to take advantage.

“It is a chance to showcase some of our finest attractions, including Glamis Castle and Arbroath Abbey, to a new audience. But it will also bring financial benefits to local hotels, restaurants and tourist spots.

“We should all be thinking of ways to capitalise on this and businesses should be making sure they can cope with the influx of visitors. I have already been in contact with VisitScotland in the last year to discuss this matter.”

Mr Dey comments follow those made by Scotland’s Finance Secretary John Swinney who said the V&A at Dundee would not only increase the number of visitors to the city but also have a profound effect on the wider region.
