Plans have been announced for an extra-special fundraising event in Forfar next summer, which will raise funds for eight charities with strong connections to the local area.

The Shindig for 8 Charity Dance will be held in Strathmore Hall, Forfar Mart on Saturday, June 2 in aid of Cystic Fibrosis (Tayside), Diabetes UK Scotland, Jockey Jan Memorial Fund, Lippen Care, Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland, Ninewells Paediatric Gastroenterology Fund, RNLI and Tayside Children with Cancer & Leukaemia (TCCL).

The committee organising the Shindig for 8 Charity Dance are Lillian Carnegie, Lillias Greenhill, Anne Kydd, Shirley Leslie, Kay Lyburn, Hazel Melrose, Moira Nicoll, Alison Orr, Alison Stodart and Margaret Wilson.

“Forfar Mart has been part of my life for as long as I can remember and for many years now, I’ve thought what a wonderful venue it would be for a gala evening,” explained committee member Margaret Wilson.

“For my husband and I, the loss of our daughter Jan has opened our eyes to the good work being done by charities throughout Angus so, when the Strathmore Hall with its fabulous new catering, dining and dancing facilities opened at Forfar Mart earlier this year, I suggested to a few friends that we hold a charity fundraising event.

“Together, we came up with the idea of Shindig for 8, which, as well as an evening of top class entertainment from the Lomond Ceilidh Band and High Mileage, will include a delicious BBQ by Scott Brothers Butchers, a bar and a charity auction.”

Fellow committee member Alison Orr explained that the committee members are from across Angus and represent the charities which will benefit from this event.

“In one way or another, we’ve all experienced the difference these charities can make and, as a thank you, we’re determined to raise as much money as possible,” continued Alison.

“We’re hoping people will travel to Shindig for 8 from far and wide and, as we’ve already had tickets booked by a party from Lanark, word is obviously spreading quickly about this very special occasion.

“Shindig for 8 on June 2, 2012 promises to be a wonderful night out – and a fabulous fundraiser.”

Graham Burke, manager of Forfar Mart, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting this major charity fundraising event in the Strathmore Hall next June.

“We’ve invested a lot of money in these facilities and we’re delighted that organising committees are now starting to see the potential of our wonderful new venue.”
