Craft baker Keptie Bakery has presented one of its customers with an Apple watch as a thank you for voting for them to win in the recent Scottish Baker Awards.

The family firm, which has bakeries in Letham, Arbroath and Brechin, recently picked up a runners up award in the Craft Baker of the Year category and a Regional Silver for their fruit scones at the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards. As a thank you they presented the high-end watch to lucky customer Lynn Maxwell.

Allan Eaton of Keptie Bakery said: “We were delighted to be presented with our awards by Mich Turner MBE and we are extremely pleased to have been recognised as one of the best bakers in Scotland.

“We put all our energies into making consistently good quality products and this has been recognised by the judges. But we could not have come this far in the competition without our team and the customers who voted for us and to be able to present Lynn with an Apple watch today courtesy of Scottish Bakers is the icing on the cake.”

Chief Executive of Scottish Bakers Alan Clarke commented: “This competition just goes from strength to strength. Over 15,000 customers from across Scotland voted for their favourite bakery products across six categories. Judging day saw 100 bakers deliver 850 of their most popular scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits for judging by the professionals whose job it was to decide upon the best six products in the land.

“The Scottish Baker of the Year Awards was devised by Scottish Bakers to raise awareness of the bakery industry in Scotland. With baking enjoying resurgence in our kitchens, on our TV screens and on our book shelves, the Association believed it was time to recognise the skills and expertise of the men and women across Scotland who bake for a living.

“Keptie Bakery have shown that they are a worthy winner by the sheer quality of what they bake” continued Alan. “But for every baker who was entered by a customer, for all of our shortlisted bakers and for all of our members who have helped and supported us in making this competition happen, I offer my warmest congratulations. We are a great industry making quality products day in and day out and we should be proud.”
