This year’s May Day holiday fun at the Glenesk Retreat includes some great opportunities!
Visitors will have the chance to make bright holiday bunting and fabulous head wear, have a souvenir photograph taken within a gilded frame and, most especially, to take tea with ‘The Queen’.
‘Bunting and Bunnits, Buns and Balmoral’ is a drop in day of activities from 12pm to 4.30pm on Monday, May 7 at the Glenesk Retreat. Created by lively local charity Angus Arts the day offers something for everyone.
Virginia Aspinwall of Angus Arts said: “People of any age can drop in to enjoy the different things on offer.
“We’ll have inspiring materials and methods for making bunting and fancy head gear and our on-site celebrity photographer will be ready to take pictures of people within a lovely golden frame.
“Fortunately ‘The Queen’ will be on hand all day, along with her friend John Brown and there’ll be buns for tea!
“Perhaps Queen Victoria and John Brown are retracing their steps from when they travelled from Balmoral to Glenesk together in 1861, stopping to drink from a spring in Glen Mark along the way.”
Anna Robson, Retreat manager, said: “This is a great place for events of all kinds and we’re very glad to be welcoming back Angus Arts.
“Last year they brought us ‘Curious Collectors’ and the year before an even more curious adventure ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ so we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to join in and meet ‘the Queen’ on May 7.
“If you would like to book for a meal that day, or any other, please phone me on 01356 648 070.
“We are also serving evening meals on the last Friday and Saturday of the month.”
The Retreat is open from 12pm to 6pm every weekend and on public holidays until May 13, and from May 14 daily until October 28.
The ticket price for the May Day event is £3 and all proceeds will be going to The Retreat.
