A NUMBER of local organisations are set to receive a financial shot in the arm courtesy of the Angus Council Community Grant Scheme.
A report going before Angus infrastructure services committee on Tuesday (yesterday), just as the Dispatch and Herald was going to press, makes recommendations on a number of applications over £1,000 and informs the committee of successful applications for grants of less than £1,000.
Letham and District Twinning Association is receiving £450 to help promote a new twinning link with a French community to encourage more members and community involvement.
The African Drum Village has been awarded £1,000 towards the hire of portable toilets for its annual cultural festival in Glen Isla.
Another Kirriemuir organisation, The Skein Tryst, is to receive £951.54 towards the purchase of a Bain-Marie.
The Skein Tryst is a relatively new group which organises a monthly lunch club/ social for those from isolated rural areas, with an average of around 35 people attending get-togethers.
Angus-wide organisations receiving awards include Angus Arts (£535 towards the cost of two puppet festivals and the hire of musicians for a new evening concert) and Heartie Thrang (£670 which helped meet the costs of a bi-annual event encouraging over fifties in Angus to try new activities).
