THREE years ago the old Gretna FC completed their lightning tour round Scottish football grounds as they flew through the leagues only to crash and burn.
Since then, fans of Gretna formed another club in their place - Gretna FC 2008, and they are now attempting to visit all Scottish grounds in only 24 hours including Station Park, home of Forfar Athletic.
Starting at Shielfield Park, Berwick at 9am on Friday, July 15 they will visit every ground in Scotland before arriving back in time for Gretna’s Gala Day on Saturday.
Along the way they will be raising money for the new club and Macmillan Cancer Support. Sponsorship has been arranged as well as a charity auction and raffle.
Gretna 2008 were founded by local supporters with a passion for the game who wanted to ensure that the cimmunity had a team to cheer. They play in the East of Scotland league and, following a successful season, have just gained promotion to the EOS Premier Division.
The fans are aiming to raise much needed funds to go towards the continued running and development of the club into next season and beyond, as well as helping to maintain the ground and hopefully repairing the floodlights.
Macmillan Cancer Support are a UK wide charity who offer a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need.
Not onlt patients who live with cancer but also their carers, families and communities.
They’re a charity who are close to the supporters’ hearts personally, which is why they have chosen to give them half off all the money they raise.
The supporters are due to arrive in Forfar at around 4.20pm on Friday, July 15 so why not come along and wish them well?
