An Angus family have donated £1500 to the neonatal unit and £1500 to the parents’ overnight accommodation at Ninewells Hospital.

Cousins Karyn Lennon and Melanie Yule, who are from Forfar and Kirriemuir, announced their pregnancies within days of each other and their due dates were four days apart.

In November, Karyn had her baby boy, Jake, six weeks early and the next day Melanie also had her baby boy, Harry, six weeks early. Both babies spent approximately three weeks next to each other in the neonatal unit.

Karyn said: “We stayed in the parents’ overnight accommodation and are extremely grateful to have been able to use it. All the staff in neonatal unit gave us a lot of support during the boys’ time in hospital. Both are thriving at home!”

Melanie said: “I recently celebrated my 40th birthday and instead of gifts I asked my friends and family to make donations instead. We also raised money by having a coffee morning.

“We are forever grateful for the care both our boys received and hope this money will give a little something back.”

Accepting the cheque, senior charge nurse Alison Findlay said: “We are extremely grateful to Melanie and Karyn for thinking of us and giving their time to raise such a generous amount of money. The money raised will help us buy more breast pumps for our mums to express milk at their baby’s bedside. Thank you everyone who supported Melanie and Karyn and helped them raise this fantastic amount.”
