The programme for the popular Angus Glens Walking Festival has just been announced, and online bookings are now open.

This year’s festival, the 13th, runs from Thursday, June 4 to Sunday, June 7 and offers a packed programme, with something to suit walkers of all abilities.

The 2015 festival is sponsored by Peel Farm, and offers 24 fantastic and varied walks over the four days.

All the walks are graded, from all abilities to extremely strenuous, so walkers can pick the walks best suited to their experience and fitness.

Highlights of this year’s festival include a new 10-mile walk from Glen Isla to Glen Doll which takes in spectacular views at the summit of Finalty Hill before dropping down into Corrie Fee, well known for its rare and unusual alpine plants.

The ever-popular Jock’s Road features twice in the programme again this year.

As a special celebration of Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink a food foraging walk around Forfar Loch has been included this year, with a tempting taster of some wild produce at the end.

Coach transport from the event centre in Kirriemuir is included; walkers are dropped off at the start of their walk and picked up at the end, offering the chance for linear walks.

Added to this is the knowledge and experience of the fully qualified walk leaders who offer a unique insight into the history and sights of the area, including the flora and fauna that can be spotted on each walk.

Tom McGrath, festival chairman, said: “The Festival attracts walkers of all ages and abilities.

“It is a great way of exploring the Angus countryside safely, with the chance of seeing some of our iconic wildlife such as golden eagles, red deer and red squirrels. Our walk leaders will ensure that everyone gets the most out of their experience.”
