Angus Council seeks views on extended festive season licensing hours

Angus Council licensing board is seeking views about extended hours for serving alcohol over Christmas and New Year.

The board presently permits premises to open for one additional hour at the end of trading on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Hogmanay and New Year’s Day.

But they won’t grant this if it means the premises trade beyond 2am.

Representations were made to board members about their festive season extended hours policy at a joint meeting of the board and Angus Local Licensing Forum last November.

And now, the board wants to hear the public’s views about whether they should change the policy.

Options could include:

The status quo

A blanket extension of hours throughout the month of December

Granting premises the same hours they would have on a Friday and Saturday night on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Hogmanay and New Year’s Day; or

Moving the days when premises can open later (e.g. from Hogmanay and New Year’s Day to the Friday and Saturday night before Christmas Eve).
