An interesting historical talk

LAST Tuesday, president Jim Ewing welcomed 47 members and two guests to the Forfar Probus Club.

With the non-arrival of the guest speaker, Jim expressed his grateful thanks to club member Les Craib who filled the gap by giving an account of the history of Forfar Horticultural Society.

The current Forfar Horticultural Society held its first show in August 1892.

The society has held a flower show each year since then except for those years during the First and Second World Wars.

Some of the prizes which were awarded during those early shows, he explained, were very acceptable items and, amongst other things, could take the form of a length of cloth for a gentleman’s suit or a handsome barometer.

Club member Bill Bruce proposed the vote of thanks.
