Brechin historian David G. Adams’ “magnum opus” on the history of the communities between Torry and Dundee has been published.
On his death in 2002, his research was incomplete and the relevant papers, computer files, notes, drawings and photographs passed to Angus Council Cultural Services.
However, Gillian Zealand, who had worked with Davy and understood his methods, took on the task of editing the material and filling the gaps.
Fishing methods, types of boats, markets and cures are all explored, but the bulk of the book is an informative Gazetteer comprising individual sections on the history of each of the communities. Also, there are two useful appendices devoted to bye-names and an alphabetical list of fisher surnames.
