THE new Queen Mother Memorial Gates at Glamis Castle will receive a Royal seal of approval on Monday during a visit by the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay.
The Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla (known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay whilst in Scotland), will officially open the new gates which form part of a new entrance to the grounds of Glamis Castle.

They have been installed as a fitting and permanent tribute to the Queen Mother, the Duke of Rothesay's grand-mother, who spent her childhood at Glamis Castle.

Work on the gates began last January when a swathe of the castle's boundary wall was demolished to bring the access point to the property closer to the village.

Last May, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore laid the foundation stone.

The gates feature lion-topped slender stone pillars built to hold the main gates, which allow traffic into the grounds, as well as side gates for pedestrians, and the creation of a piazza.

The new entrance replaces an old, narrow one further out of the village which has proved awkward for large buses to negotiate.

Confirmation of Monday's Royal visit was given in the diary dates on the Prince of Wales' official website.
