WORK on the resurfacing of a stretch of Glamis Road in Forfar is to start on Monday, February 15.
The road is just one of a number adversely affected by the recent spell of bad weather.

Angus Council has already stated that emergency road repairs caused by the big freeze were likely to cost around £250,000.

Commenting on the work the council's infrastructure services convener David May said the council was prioritising the repair work needed.

"We're still gathering information from the public as well as from our own inspection team about weather damaged roads and pavements and we have already been carrying out some short term emergency repairs," said councillor May.

"This busy stretch of the Glamis Road in Forfar has been assessed as a priority so the council has instructed the complete resurfacing of the route and work is planned to start on February 15."

The carriageway resurfacing from east of Lowson Avenue to West of Benholm Gardens is expected to take two weeks.

The following one-way system will be in operation to enable the works to be carried out as safely and swiftly as possible; traffic on Glamis road will flow from the West Port lights out to Orchardbank; traffic travelling east from Orchardbank will be diverted along Westfield Loan, Dundee Road and Dundee Loan to the West Port lights.

All roads leading on to Glamis Road within the resurfacing area will be diverted along Glamis Road to Westfield Loan and onto the diversion route.

Bus passengers are asked to look out for the signs that will be posted at the bus shelters and bus stops of any changes to the services on this route.

The bus serving Lochview Terrace and Graham Crescent will continue to run but may be delayed.

Angus Council is writing to all households on the affected route advising residents of the proposed work.

The works consist of the planing of the existing surface, the resetting of existing ironwork and the laying of a new road surface. Domestic refuse collection will be unaffected and wheelie bins and boxes should be put out as normal.

The U464 Trumperton Road, Letham, is another casualty of the severe weather.

The road has had to be closed for emergency repairs following the break up of the road surface.

Resurfacing work started on Tuesday (yesterday) tomorrow and will take about two weeks to complete.

The alternative route is A932/C54 Auldbar Road/The Square/East Hemming Street and East Den Brae.
