A PACKED public meeting chaired by Mike Weir MP at Strathmore Arms Hotel, Glamis, on Monday evening left no doubt the depth of anger felt in the village over the proposals to reduce Glamis post office to an outreach service.
The meeting was addressed by Connie Hewitt and colleagues from Post Office Limited and Chris Thirkettle of Postwatch.

The meeting was also attended by John Swinney MSP and local councillors Iain Gaul and Ian Mackintosh.

Commenting on the meet
ing, Mr Weir said: "Glamis Community Council has run a fantastic publicity campaign to highlight the concerns and on Monday evening they had an opportunity to put those concerns directly to Post Office Limited and Postwatch.

"If Post Office Limited were in any doubt as to the depth of anger at their proposals they would have lost them after this meeting. A large number of pointed and detailed questions and comments were made showing the folly of the proposals being put forward.

"As well as the impact upon residents the point was strongly made that businesses in Glamis and the surrounding area relied upon the service at the Post Office and the proposed reduction of services would hit them badly.

"This is a vitally important point since it strikes at the very sustainability of the rural economy.

"Local residents have only until July 8 to make representations on the proposals. I would urge all local residents to write to both Post Office Limited and Postwatch to ensure their voices are heard."

Anyone wishing to make representations can write to the Post Office at Sally Buchanan, FREEPOST Consultation Team or by email to consultation@postoffice.co.uk . For Postwatch the address is Tricia Dow, Postwatch Scotland, 9-10 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh EH2 2AF or by email to Scotland@postwatch.co.uk.
