GALA WEEK AT THE EAST AND OLD

THE work of the various organisations associated with the East and Old Parish Church, as well as fascinating details of the church's history, will be on show during Forfar Gala Week.
The church has arranged a series of open afternoons and evenings to co-incide with Forfar Gala Week.

Visitors can find out about the work of the 2nd Forfar Boys' Brigade Company, the church Guild, the Friends of the Forfar East and Old, the Praye
r Group and the popular Pizza Praise.

There will be information boards giving details and photographs of fascinating facts on the steeple, its clock, the bells and the griffon.

Learn about the contents of a time capsule which was buried under the steeple in 1813 and how the griffon was lowered in the 19th century when it was gilded.

Details of the church's stained glass windows, the organ as well as organist, the late Willie Bernard, will also be on view as will the second world war roll of honour listing the names and addresses of local men who served and gave their lives.

Read how the church's graveyard was involved in the witch trials of the 1660s and take part in a quiz on the 'Big kirk'.

The church will be open as follows:-

Monday, June 22 - 1 pm to 4.30 pm; Tuesday, June 23 - 6.30 pm to 9 pm; Wednesday, June 24 - 1 pm to 4.30 pm; Thursday, June 25 - 6.30 pm to 9 pm and Friday, June 26 - 1 pm to 4.30 pm.

Refreshments will be served at all times.
