PLANS to create a new centrally-situated youth facility in Kirriemuir are continuing to move forward.
Kirriemuir Councillor Ian Mackintosh was invited along to the premises in the Glengate just the other week, to sign off the Stage 2 Lottery application for the "Vault".

The proposals aim to encourage young people to become active citizens by making a more valuable contribution both to the project and to the wider community of Kirriemuir, the surrounding rural areas and the Angus Community as a whole.

The group also aims to provide greater opportunities for young people most at risk of social exclusion through systematic targeting of those less likely to participate in youth work activities.

The proposed new drop-in centre is hoped to be open by December, for young people in the community of Kirriemuir. The Vault plans to provide an alcohol free environment for youths to have a facility that is dedicated to them.

Chairman Murray David now plans to put together a youth committee to take forward the plans and an approach will be made shortly to get youths willing to take an interest in the project and to assist in what will finally be in the building.

All through the planning stages the needs of youngsters have been sought. It is really important that the youths take ownership of the project and make the Vault a success.

At the moment the group members are looking for someone out there with experience in building a web-site and anyone interested in getting involved should contact Elaine Whittet on 0771 775 8252.
