A LOCAL support group for people who have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the latest recipient of a Forfar Roof Truss Company Limited £250 sponsorship award.
Representatives of the Forfar Airways Self-Managed Support Group popped along to the Roof Truss Company headquarters at Orchardbank last week to accept the cheque.
Chairperson Ian Baxter, who made the application for the funding, explained that COPD is a long term condition which causes severe shortage of breath for people even doing the simplest of tasks, including walking.
There is no cure for the condition which worsens with the passage of time.
When the local support group was formed in May 2009 there were approximately nine members and this had grown over the two years to approximately thirty.
The group meets every Monday between 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm in the Forfar community fire station, Strang Street, Forfar.
The members of the group are men and women between the ages of their late fifties and late eighties who suffer from the condition.
“The Forfar Roof Truss sponsorship award of £250 is to be used to help purchase additional exercise equipment as our group continues to grow in membership and to help with the ever-increasing cost of transport for future social outings,” concludes Ian Baxter.
