A YOUTH project in the village of Letham is the first recipient of a new monthly award provided by the 10 Cafe Bar in Castle Street, Forfar.

Members of the Basement Letham Youth Project popped along to the premises last week, to accept the donation from Karly Hosie.

Helen Dow explained that the donation is very welcome, as work continues to set up a facility for young people between the ages of 13 and 25.

“We have been on the go for five years and finally we have managed to secure premises close to the centre of the village,” she added.

“We have succeeded in leasing the old library premises, and we are looking to purchase equipment.”

The members of the Basement Letham Youth Project meet on Tuesday evenings between 7 pm and 9.30 pm, catering for between ten and 20 young people.

“The children are organising a lot of the fund-raising ventures themselves”, added Helen.

“They are keen to revamp and furnish the building to meet their needs, and every little helps.”

This coming Saturday, you will find members of the project at the Tesco store in Forfar from 12 noon to 5 pm - bag-packing and taking part in a sponsored exercise bike ride.

“In addition to the ongoing work on the premises, it is hoped to organise hillwalking and other outings for the kids.

“The members are also keen to participate in community life and have plans for a litter pick-up and participation in the Victorian Street Market.”

Following this first cheque presentation the search is on for another worthy recipient.

The award is aimed at the younger generation, with the closing date for nominations the tenth of each month.
