Wide range of craft workshops

The Glenesk Retreat is holding a wide range of craft workshops all through the season.

This community run visitor centre and folk museum is the perfect place to discover and enjoy activities as varied as pearl stringing, knitting and felt making.

The inspiring programme starts on Saturday May 5 with Issy Whitton’s pearl stringing workshop.

Tickets cost £15 and the workshop runs from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Issy will provide all the materials and at the end of the session participants will have made a beautiful pearl necklace to take away.

On Saturday, May 12, Marion Robson will be on hand from 12 pm to 4 pm to teach people how to recycle their odd bits of fabric and turn them into a splendid cushion.

On Saturday, June 16, Tom Nichol offers guided bird watching.

The following Saturday, June 23, Sandra Guthrie leads a knitting workshop for beginners, with a felt making workshop with Alyson Morrison running on Saturday, August 11.

All workshop participants will be given a free cup of tea and scone when they arrive.

The Retreat is open every weekend, plus public holidays, until May 13 and then daily until October 28. Opening hours are 12 pm to 6 pm.

There is something for everyone in the shop, licensed restaurant, nature trail and children’s play area.

The Glenesk Folk Museum displays a unique collection of artefacts telling many fascinating stories of glen life.

Monday, May 7, May Day holiday, sees lively local charity Angus Arts, offering a drop in day from 12 pm to 4.30 pm.

Bunting and Bunnits, Buns and Balmoral’ involves a chance to make fabulous bunting and head wear, to have a special photo taken and to take tea with ‘The Queen’.

It costs £3 to join in.
