Last chance to register for 2011 Kirrie Splash

This year’s Kirriemuir Splash relay swim has attracted an amazing response from schools and clubs.

The organisers report that only one category needs more entries - the community registrations, especially from the “Old and Bold’ age group which are fewer than usual.

You have until Friday, September 16 to register on 01575 572129.

A spokesman said: “This year, despite current economic woes Splash has been supported by more commercial firms and community organisations than ever before in the event’s 22 year history.

“The generosity of trade lane contributors in Angus and our Kirriemuir Rotary Club gives a huge impetus to our volunteer efforts to achieve a record fund-raising total for 2011.

“Their money together with pledges to individual swimmers by local people improves living standards for disadvantaged people in Scotland and overseas. Their continuing support for our relay swim deserves recognition and thanks.”

All team swimming times will be published in this newspaper next week and the organisers ask that swimmers register at the pool at least 15 minutes before their appearance time bringing their sponsor money with them.

The event launches at 1.30pm and swimmers trophies in five categories will be presented by 2011 main sponsors Guild Homes directors at 5.15pm.

Every entrant will also receive a personal certificate recording their performance - no swimmer young or old, fast or slow will be left out of the honours.

Splash is organised by Kirriemuir St Andrews, St Anthonys, St Marys and Glens and Old Parish Churches.
