First class produce

This Saturday at the Forfar Farmers’ Market indoors at the Mart, John Street regular stall-holders will welcome back Puddledub Buffalo to their line up of first class meat producers.

Buffalo meat is very lean yet succulent and delicious; Hayley the market chef will be braising buffalo meat as part of her cooking demonstrations so customers will get a chance to taste this truly unique product. The market can provide many alternatives for your Christmas meal this year with wonderful Highland Beef roasts from Highland Drovers to Wild Boar and game birds at the Hubertus Game stall. Not only can you find first class fresh produce at the market but you can also pick up some impressive cooked treats including homemade quiche and lovely pork and chicken terrine from Pauline at the Feed me Full stall perfect to freeze and use over the holiday time when the cook is on her day off.

It’s hard to find gifts sometimes that will be appreciated and used but there is no doubt a hamper filled with delicious jams and relishes or nicely packaged handmade fudge or parmesan nibbles will be a welcome present for anyone. The market also has Farmers Market Gift Vouchers that can be used at both Forfar and Montrose markets.

To add some festive cheer to Saturday members of the Forfar Musical Society will be singing carols, this year they will be performing ‘Dick Whittington’ at the Reid Hall from December 12 to 15.

Customers using the farmers’ market loyalty card will get one more stamp on Saturday then will be entered into the draw for £150 worth of market vouchers; the draw will take place at the end of the market at 1 p.m. The loyalty card has proved to be very popular and organisers will be launching another card at the Forfar market on January 12, 2013.

A special Christmas Fair will be held on December 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Strathmore Hall. The Farmers’ Market stallholders will be joined by many local crafters bringing together fantastic produce and wonderful gifts, organisers are expecting over 40 stalls making this the perfect start to the Christmas holidays. There will be lots going on including the live cook off finals of the Angus Young Chef of the Year competition.

All in all the market can supply first class local foods together with a happy shopping atmosphere. Orders made on Saturday can be collected from the stall-holders at the Christmas market giving you the opportunity to have your favourite fresh produce for your festive table.
