WEAVING TOGETHER FACT AND FICTION AT BALGAY HILL
DUNDEE Rep Theatre's three-week run of Balgay Hill, a brand new play by Scottish playwright Simon Macallum, ends this Saturday.
Directed by James Brining, Balgay Hill is a story about Dundee, glamour, heroes and fame performed by the Rep's Ensemble.
Featuring some of the Associates' most famous songs, blending music, drama and video of Billy Mackenzie in performance, Balgay Hill is more than the story of a life but a play in which Dundee is the star.
It weaves the fictional stories of four people living in Dundee around Billy Mackenzie's music and his career.
From the 80's to the present day we see life in Dundee unfold and the impact Mackenzie's music had on the city and beyond.
Balgay Hill follows his career from the Associates with Alan Rankin to his solo career and his tragic and untimely death.
The cast includes Scottish actor Vincent Friell (Michael) who first performed at the Rep in 1986 in The Slab Boys and in 1992 in Walter and Uncle Vanya.
Actor Robin Laing (Stephen) was born in Dundee and was cast as Kevin in the Rep's hugely popular The Mill Lavies. Helen McAlpine (Sinead) and Louise Ludgate (Kennedy) perform at the Rep for the first time.
