HARMONICA LEGEND AT MONTROSE FOLK CLUB

THE current season at Montrose Folk Club concludes in the Links Hotel, Mid Links, Montrose on Friday, June 25 at 8 pm with a Blues night featuring harmonica legend, Fraser Speirs, accompanied by Allan Jones on guitar and vocals.

Fraser and Allan will be presenting an evening of classic acoustic Blues music.

Since this will be the final night for the club prior to their normal summer break, the concert takes place on a Friday, rather than the normal Tuesday evening.

Fraser Speirs is a great favourite of audiences in Montrose.

Previously, he has played at Montrose Folk Club in a duo with Rab Noakes and at the Links Hotel Jazz Club as part of the Tam White Shoestring Band, as well as at the first Montrose Music Festival in a duo with Alan Nimmo.

In a career spanning over thirty years, the name of Fraser Speirs has become synonymous with harmonica playing of the highest quality.

Paul Jones of BBC Radio 2 has described him as "a great harp player with a gorgeous tone".

Fraser has played with performers as diverse as Alexis Korner, Muddy Waters and Homesick James, through to contemporary artists such as Eddi Reader, Karen Matheson and Carol Kidd.

For the past couple of years, he has been touring the world as part of the band backing Paolo Nutini.

Fraser also played on the recent album release by Paolo Nutini which topped the album charts.

"About Time", the debut album by Fraser Speirs, was recorded live at the Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow.

It showcases the talents of a fine musician, backed by many of the performers with whom he has collaborated over the years.

In 2003, Fraser released "Lets Go To Town", a duo album made with Allan Jones, the distinctive-voiced Edinburgh singer and guitarist, with whom Fraser will be performing at Montrose Folk Club.

Following the death of harmonica legend Larry Adler, a UK national broadsheet newspaper invited its readers to name the greatest living harmonica player.

The name of Fraser Speirs was one of those put forward – a fitting tribute to the sheer brilliance of his playing.

Everyone is welcome at Montrose Folk Club a week on Friday to enjoy an evening of great acoustic Blues music to provide a fitting conclusion to the current season at the club.

The doors at the Links Hotel will be open at 7.30 pm with Fraser and Allan on stage at 8 pm.

After the summer break, the club will resume on Tuesday, August 10 when the guests will be The Bevvy Sisters.
