INTIMATE DRAMA OF EPIC PROPORTIONS

DUNDEE Rep Ensemble present Equus, an intimate drama of epic proportions uncovering dark secrets and deep desires, from Saturday, February 27 to Saturday, March 20.
The passionate drama, Equus, is presented by Dundee Rep Ensemble from Saturday, February 27 to Saturday, March 20.

Written by Peter Shaffer and directed by Rep associate director Jemima Levick this thrilling play was first performed in 1973 resta
ged more recently in 2007 before opening on Broadway the follow year.

First staged at the Old Vic Equus delves into the mind of Alan Strang a young man who commits a heinous crime against horses. Saved from a jail sentence he is confined in the care of psychiatrist Dr Martin Dysart. Dr Dysart attempts to understand the barbaric actions while wrestling with his own sense of purpose.

Dundee Rep Ensemble apprentice Duncan Anderson plays the troubled Alan Strang a long side veteran Robert Paterson as Dr Dysart.

Ann Louise Ross (Dora Strang) and John Buick (Frank Strang) the over protective parents blame one another for the failings in Alan's upbringing. Ensemble members Irene Macdougall (Hester Salomon), Emily Winter (Nurse), Kevin Lennon (Young Horseman) Angela Hardie (Jill Mason) are joined by choreographer Lindsay McDonald with John Macaulay, Alan Burgon and Jim Sturgeon as horses. Jim Sturgeon also plays Harry Dalton the stable owner.

Dundee Rep's associate director Jemima Levick directs this passionate tale and is designed by Alex Lowde, CATS Award winner for best design for the critically acclaimed Beauty and the Beast, Dundee Rep's Christmas show 2008. Lighting design by Colin Grenfell, music by Philip Pinsky and set in the round Equus will be dramatically brought to life.

Dundee Rep Ensemble is working with Robert Allsopp Associates for the first time. Artist Robert Allsopp specialises in props, costumes and effects for the entertainment industry. Since 1986 Robert has worked on many TV, Theatre and film projects and will bring to life the horses integral to this powerful and sensual drama.
