THE official opening of Forfar's purpose-built skate park last Saturday marked the end of ten long years of campaigning by the Forfar Wheeled Sports Association.
Members have endured a number of twists and turns along the way in their attempts to fund the new facility which sits to the rear of the tennis courts at the Lochside Leisure Centre.

However, Forfar councillor Glennis Middleton was on hand on Saturday to declare the new facility well and truly open, before the skills of the local youngsters were put to the test in a number of competitions.
There was a good turnout on the day with 42 entrants and about 100 spectators during the afternoon.

The new facility was made possible through Association funding as well as awards from the Forfar Common Good Fund, Awards for All, CashBack for Communities and Angus Council.

The results on the day were as follows:-
Skateboarding: beginners - 1, Cameron Keith; 2, Kieran Hollins; 3, Innes Black.

Intermediate - 1, Alex Brodie; 2, Jonathan White; 3, Ali Birse.
BMX bikes: beginners - 1, Sean Davidson; 2, Reece Bremner; 3, Reece Longmuir.

Intermediate - 1, Mark Ogg; 2, Connor Howden; 3, Troy Morris.
Rollerblades: beginners - 1, Callum Carnie; 2, Max Anderson; 3, Kegan Morris.

Intermediate - 1, Jason Clements; 2, Paul Robinson; 3, Troy Morris.
Commenting on the opening of the skate park, Forfar councillor Colin Brown, vice-convener of neighbourhood services, expressed his delight at the completion of the Forfar Skatepark project by Angus Council's contractors.

He said: "I am so glad we have finished this project on time and on budget so it can now be used by enthusiasts in the Forfar area.

"I am pleased that the skatepark association worked with council officers to develop a facility which presents an excellent design at an affordable cost. I have to thank the inventive people who assisted with the original design there."

He added: "Angus Council worked hard with the committee to design a cost effective solution which will be enjoyed by skaters, young and old, for many years to come."
