THE annual Forfar Gala Week came to a highly successful conclusion when a bumper crowd flocked to the Myre on Sunday afternoon - to enjoy a mouthwatering programme of activities.
Organised by Forfar and Area Partnership, the gala week kicked off at the same venue the previous Sunday, with an afternoon of music featuring local bands.
Throughout the week - in the run-up to the gala day itself - Forfar East & Old Parish Church staged tours and displays and St. John's Episcopal Church presented recitals, an exhibition and a talk, while on the gala day itself, St. Margaret's Church staged a summer afternoon of music.
The Forfar Gala Fives, a football competition for under-11s, under-13s and under-15s, ran at the Market Muir throughout last week, while other events included a bowling match between Special Olympians and elected members of Angus Council, a tea dance staged in the Forfar branch headquarters of the Royal British Legion Scotland, witches walks from Forfar Town Hall, a Firefly Youth Drama Workshop for pupils in P4 to S1 and a Continental Market in the Myre from Friday to Sunday.
On Saturday the Myre played host to a falconry display and a dog show, the gala Sunday programme being opened by North Tayside MSP John Swinney and running from 12 noon.
Entertainment was provided by Forfar and District Pipe Band, Aphrodisiac, the Liz Low Dancers, Strathmore Rugby Club Sharks, Sonnet 65 and a group of bellydancers - while the afternoon also featured an armed forces parade at around 1.45 pm (see separate story).
Cookery demonstrations took place throughout the afternoon, organised by Darren Hill of Kookaburras Restaurant.
Ringing the Myre perimeter was a whole host of fund-raising and fun stands - 27 in all, while other attractions included a refreshment tent, a display by Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club, children's fun rides, the Youth Bytes Bus, pony rides, a Black Watch display and a cookery demonstration tent and a tug o' war competition.
And, with the weather staying warm and dry, if rather cloudy, everyone who attended had a ball!
