THE Royal Mail Group has dismissed claims that the Dundee Road Post Office is to close in July as "pure speculation".
The Forfar Dispatch was contacted last week by one concerned customer who uses the Post Office situated within the Co-op.

She had been told staff had been informed the Post Office was to close in July and that they should pass on the news to cust
omers.

She added that, if the rumour turned out to be true, she hoped customers would form a petition to try to stop the closure as the Post Office was used by many.

It provided a valuable service for those living nearby, as well as for others who often travel to the Post Office to use its services.

She felt the Royal Mail could not justify closing down the Dundee Road facility, which would leave only the general post office in West High Street to service the whole of Forfar, following the closure of the East Port Post Office a few years ago.

When contacted about the news of a possible closure, a spokesperson for the Royal Mail Group said: "It is pure speculation.

"Proposals for the future provision of Post Office services across the North East, Tayside and Fife is due to be announced on May 28 and will be the subject of a six week period of public consultation."
